Naz Narrates- Aquaplaning

Yamaha R15Aquaplaning causes your bike to skid on the wet roads

Its monsoon time in India and the chances of encountering Aquaplaning is more these days than any other time of the year. So I thought this would be the best time to throw some light on Aquaplaning so you have better understanding of this phenomenon.

Aquaplaning or Hydroplaning is a phenomenon which causes your motorcycle to shed traction while moving over a wet road or surface. When you move over a wet road, the water on the surface tends to accumulate in front of your tires, if the amount of water is more than what the tire can push away, then a thin film of water builds up between the tire and the road making you lose contact with the surface causing you lose control of your motorcycle and resulting in a slide or a skid.

But I would say that motorcyclists are luckier than the fellow car owners as the chances of aquaplaning in motorcycles are far less than in a car. Motorcycles have narrow tires as compared to cars and secondly they are rounded than being flat which enhances their ability to push out the water to the sides.

For those who prefer wider tires for their motorcycle just for the sake of looks, better think twice as the chances of aquaplaning would be more with wider tires.

Report – Suzuki ready for the ‘SlingShot’

Suzuki Logo

After a long time Suzuki is planning to launch a new model in India. Suzuki will be introducing another 125cc motorcycle called the SlingShot.

The SlingShot is expected to be launched in the 1st week of June this year. This bike will be equipped with a 125cc engine and a 5 speed gear box. The entire technical specs are not known as of now but we don’t expect them to be much different from the 125cc Zeus.

When Indian Motos Blog contacted the local Suzuki dealer regarding this development, a sales executive had this to say -

The bike will be based on the Suzuki Zeus and will have a 125cc engine. It will meet all emission standards so that it can be sold in major cities. We have no further information.

Suzuki Slingshot Features

From the images it looks that Suzuki has paid special attention to the looks of the bike and have tried whatever they could have done to make the 125cc bike more attractive and sportier. The bike resembles to Suzuki GS 150R a little bit as well, the fuel tanks perhaps could be borrowed from the 150cc motorcycle.

The all-analog meter console sits on top of the headlamp which is makes it a little peculiar when looked at. The console also has the gear shift indicator along with the traditional speedo, fuel indicator, etc. The alloy wheels have a different design and looks stylish.

The cost and the other minute details regarding the Suzuki SlingShot will be revealed very shortly, so keep following this space for more details on the SlingShot.

Olive green Royal Enfield Classic 500 Military launched

Royal Enfield C5 MilitaryThe Battle Green color looks impressive

Royal Enfield lovers in US can be considered far more luckier than the Indian counterparts as now they can buy the olive green Royal Enfield Classic 500 Military from their nearest RE dealer at a cost starting from $6395.

If you are thinking that why you cannot buy an olive green RE in India then the answer is as simple as the Indian laws does not permit this olive green color to be used on civilian vehicles.

Apart from this attractive olive green color the American Royal Enfield C5 Military comes up with much improved tyres along with an oxygen sensor in the ECU. These features are not present in our Indian Classic 500UCE.

On the other note, we hope to see theat the company increases its production capacity in India soon so that at least we can have the existing models delivered with less waiting period in the country. Olive green is still far away for us.

KTM 125 Race ConceptThe KTM Race and Stunt Concepts were displayed in Italy last year, is it something similar in store for India?

It would take another 12 to 15 months for the first KTM bike to be launched in India. Bajaj and KTM are jointly working on developing a 125cc bike which will be built at Bajaj’s manufacturing plant at Chakan.

However the bike will first be rolled out in Europe where it will be exported from India by the year end and around mid of next year the bike will be launched in the Indian market. Bajaj will be selling the KTM products in India and neighbouring countries and some other parts of the globe as well.

KTM has already displayed two of its 125cc models at the EICMA Show in Milan, Italy last year. These two were 125cc models and were called the Stunt and Race concepts respectively. It was expected that these bikes will make it to the 2010 Auto Expo in Delhi but instead some bigger bikes from KTM were at display at Bajaj’s stall.

Fresh bookings stopped for Royal Enfield Classic 350

Royal Enfield Classic350It will be a long wait for the Classic 350 lovers

This could be a sad news for the people who are planning to buy a Royal Enfield Classic 350 motorcycle in India. The increasing demand for the motorcycle has caused the company to take a bold step which would mean that one would not be able to book this RE motorcycle.

The company failing to meet the rising demand of Classic 350 model has decided to stop taking any new bookings for it till year end. On the other hand the booking for the Classic 500 will still be open but the delivery can take upto six months of time!

The company was taken by surprise when all its projected calculation went wrong as the demand was far more than what they have expected. Therefore the company will first clear up the back log and fresh booking will only start until the pending orders have been taken care of.

RE manufactures around 650 units of each of its model per month out of which 300 units of each are sold locally and around 350 units of each are exported to other countries. The company is also working on improving its infrastructure so as to increase its production capacity.

Kawasaki_Ninja_ZX-6RMore bikes from Bajaj-Kawasaki tie-up in the months to come

With the sales growing for the Ninja 250R over the period of time, Bajaj in collaboration with Kawasaki is planning to bring up high end bikes from the Japanese bike maker.

So far Bajaj has sold around 500 units of the Ninja 250R through its probiking showrooms across the country and the response is getting better n better day by day.

Bajaj in agreement with Kawasaki will bring in more Kawasaki bikes some of them will be assembled locally whereas some of them will be brought in as CBU down the year.

As per sources we expect the 600cc Ninja to be the next to be brought into India by Bajaj. The Ninja 250R has a waiting period of about 3 months as of now and the company is planning to reduce it to half in a few months time.

The Ninja 250R is no doubt one of the best 250cc bikes in the world and its a great thing that we have this bike being sold in our country. But the bike is still out of reach of many of the bike enthusiasts in India like myself.
