Indian Motos Blog had already reported the new 125cc bike to be launched by Bajaj-KTM in India soon. Now the news has been confirmed officially and Bajaj would introduce this bike in the next fiscal year, 2011-12.
S. Sridhar, CEO, Bajaj Motorcycles-
The product will first be launched in Europe and then in India, sometime during the next financial year. The bike, to be assembled at the company’s Pune plant, will be marketed under the KTM brand and would be priced at more than 1,00,000 rupees.
It is to be mentioned that Bajaj has jointly developed this bike with KTM, featuring technologically advanced features like liquid cooling, dual disc brakes, monoshock suspension and an excellent build quality. The engine should make about 15bhp and handle like a dream.
There would be no doubts regarding the capability and performance of this machine, but in the conservative Indian market, where a 125cc bike is branded an ‘economy bike’, would this KTM 125cc find any takers? Would people veer away from the Pulsar 220, Karizma ZMR and the Yamaha R15 to choose the KTM brand? Though the reactions of the market cannot be predicted, the enthusiasts would thoroughly be pleased.
Whether Bajaj would be eying for volumes or whether it would be selling a limited number of these bikes just to build brand image? Or is Bajaj planning to redefine the Indian bike market like what it did with the Pulsar in 2001? All these doubts would be cleared only when Bajaj launches the bike next year.
