Hero Honda records 16 percent growth in June

Hero Honda Splendor+

The country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero Honda Motors Limited (HHML) has recorded a 16.6 % rise in its sales figures for the month of June, compared to last year. The company sold 4,26,454 units in the month of June, which is its 18th consecutive month of over 3-lakh sales.

Anil Dua, Senior Vice-President, Marketing, Hero Honda Motors Limited -

Growth in June was attained on the back of the high base effect last year. Growth is coming across all segments including our scooter Pleasure which is now contributing over 25,000 units every month to the overall volume

The company also had an increase of 10.28 % in the sales figures for the April-June quarter at 12,34,039 units as compared to 11,18,987 units sold in the same period last year.

It looks as if Hero Honda, which previously had a dominance only in the motorcycle segment of the Indian two-wheeler market, is starting to march to the top of the scooter segment as well, with its Pleasure scooter now consistently registering sales figures of over 25,000 units.

The day is not far when Hero Honda will also exercise dominance in the scooter segment, thereby becoming the undisputed king of the Indian two-wheeler market.

I don’t know really as to how much of an impact does having a brand ambassador for a particular product have in the market in terms of success or failure of the product in the market, but the fact that the above mentioned statistics reveal is that Indian two-wheeler manufacturers are ready to spend and splurge heavily on advertising and marketing of a product and do whatever it takes to ensure that their product is a success in the market.

Hero Honda Splendor+ gets BS III engine

hero honda splendor+

With the emission norms for two-wheelers in effect from April 1st, Hero Honda did not introduce a BS3 version of its best selling bike, the Splendor+.

Hero Honda had been waiting for the final notification on implementation of BS3 emission norms for two-wheelers by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways which was delayed by 2 months has been issued in the last week of May.

Now, after the arrival of the final notification from the Ministry, Hero Honda has started producing BS3 engines for the Splendor+. This makes the Splendor+ eligible for sale in all the 13 metros. Hero Honda is expected hike the prices of the BS3 compliant Splendor+ by Rs.500-Rs.1000.

The BS3 Splendor+ is good news for the 100-odd Hero Honda dealers in the 13 metros, as they have lost close to Rs. 120 crore in the last two months as they couldn’t sell BS2 versions of the Splendor+.

Priyanka Chopra in new Hero Honda Pleasure ad

priyanka chopra hero honda pleasure

Priyanka Chopra has been spotted shooting a new commercial for the Hero Honda Pleasure in Bangalore.

The damsel seems to have had a ‘Pleasurable’ experience shooting for the commercial, she later tweeted telling she was having fun riding her Pleasure on the roads of Bangalore. We would say that’s a really nice step from Priyanka Chopra to be talking about the product she is endorsing on Twitter.

The first series of ‘Why should boys have all the fun??’ commercials haven’t really made the ladies flock up to Hero Honda showrooms. With the Honda Activa being the segment leader and stiff competition from rivals, Hero Honda is just shooting new commercials to boost the sales of the Pleasure?

We feel two-wheeler manufactures should simply offer better products than to rope in big celebrities to endorse their products. People should start realizing that the celebrities endorsing these two-wheelers don’t actually ride them in real life.

Manufacturers should have campaigns highlighting their product’s edge and what the product has to offer the consumer than roping in the hottest celebrity to sit astride the bike and shoot flashy ads. The pristine example of a sensible ad campaign is Hero Honda’s ‘Fill it. Shut it. Forget it.’ campaign.

Four all new products from Hero Honda in next 18 months

Karizma See-throughHero Honda is gearing up to fight the tough competition in the days to come with 4 all new products

Seeing the competition from various two wheeler manufacturers in the country, the largest two wheeler manufacturer from India, Hero Honda, does not want to be left behind and in order to stay on top the company is planning to launch 13 new products over the next year and a half.

These 13 new products would consist of 4 all new products with 4 major variants and 5 minor variants, while the focus will be on premium segment the company will also be working to keep up its hold on the mass segment. The company will also has scooters as one of the other focus area.

With these new products lined up for the launch in the next 12-18 months the company is also targeting the sales figure of 5.6 million units for the next fiscal and an overall growth of 15 per cent.

It looks like Hero Honda is taking up the competition in a serious mood and these new 4 product clearly justifies this fact. We all know that Hero Honda has the reliability which an average Indian Commuter biker wants but personally I’m yet to see something solid from the company in the premium segment. The Karizma ZMR the most hyped bike of last year disappointed a many. I would also like to see something exciting from Hero Honda in commuter segment like Honda’s CB Twister.

So lets wait and hope that this time something more exciting come out from Hero Honda’s stable.

Hero Honda working on a low cost motorcycle with Honda for India

The Hero Honda CD100 was one such low-cost bike for India

In order to be differentiators in the motorcycle world, Hero Honda is working on something similar to what Tata Motors did in the four-wheeler segment. Tata gave us the low cost car Nano and Hero-Honda is working on low cost motorcycle.

This move from Hero-Honda will not only create in new segment in the two-wheeler industry in our country but will also help them generate more revenues.

The cheapest bike in India costs somewhere around 30k but this one from Hero-Honda goes even further down and will cost somewhere around the price tag of Rs.20,000.

In order to deliver such product Hero-Honda is likely to use frugal engineering’ techniques, the way Tata did for Nano in order to design their low cost car.

This motorcycle will be targeted at the rural customers but the company is taking utmost precautions not to compromise on the quality and performance.

This motorcycle will not be a step-through so as to differentiate it from a moped and give the customers a true feeling of riding a motorcycle.

Hero Honda to roll out new range of scooters this year

hero honda pleasureThe Pleasure has seen rapid rise in sales prompting HH to develop new models

Despite Rajiv Bajaj’s announcement last month on the downfall of the scooter segment in India, Hero Honda is pushing on and bringing out a new line-up of gearless scooters.

HH has the sole “Pleasure” model whose sales say a 39% boost in the first eight months of this financial year. This could be the prime inspiration for the new range.

Hero Honda has not divulged any details on the scooter’s engine capacity or price range. It is understood that the core technology will come from Honda. Don’t be surprised if the Activa’s engine is fitted on to one of the new HH models.

Hero Honda will roll out the new scooters from its Manesar plant. TVS, Mahindra and Suzuki are also working on their contenders secretly, we’re told.
