M&M to launch a motorcycle in 2010 in India

Mahindra RodeoThe Mahindra motorcycle is being developed with little input from Kinetic

The ever-expanding Mahindra & Mahindra group now plans to explore the motorcycle section of the Indian market. The company is currently working on a motorcycle which would be launched within this year end. However no details regarding the launch or the type of motorcycle have been disclosed.

The company wants to be a major player in the two wheeler market and thereby seems to have a strong strategy to spread its lineup over all segments of the two wheeler market. We would see motorcycles and scooters from all the segments ranging from the entry to the premium level.

The M&M motorcycle has been developed in house and not much has been adopted from Kinetic brand which it took over recently

As of now Hero-Honda is the leader of the two Wheeler section in India followed by Bajaj. With such major players in the market lets see how this bike from M&M would influence buyers. Mahindra’s scooter division has seen a lot of customers and inquiries from all parts of India.

Mahindra could use the Scorpio as an inspiration for their two-wheeler range. A fuel-efficient motorcycle with adequate power and muscular styling could be the success formula for Mahindra.

Our tip – Just don’t use the Xylo as inspiration.

Mahindras please donot use any of the Kinetic platforms , because they became a sissy brand after Motwani mam took it over from her father firodia.Better would be a tie up with piaggio or apprilia for better safe and economical scooters which currently is not being made in India , Only HMSI is making vespa copies with high spare parts costs and expensive to maintain scooters compared to LML, and Bajaj which were inspite of 150cc two striker engines gave 55 kmpl and no replacement of brake drum clutch shoes ,shock absorbers etc in routine maintenence where as now every activa goes to frequent replace ment of clutch rollers shoes variator drums front shocks, kicker shafts, airfilters, and aminimum of 3000 expenses for every service after warranty and with a mileage of meagre 35kmpl for a 100cc 4Stroke scooter

We need 150 cc motorcycle with a looks of 500cc aprilias in India will be a hit but none of our Indian manfacturers are getting any clues to make it surprise..They continue to make vehicles like RTR, Pulsar 135 with lousy looking tank with still worse looking side add ons which donot have any stream linea mated to the tank which is the main selling proposition for any motorcycle,So have a BMW tank in mind, lets go for a shaft drive at rear for a change, find out if synchromesh can be had for gearbox (possibility), Water cooled engine a must
This will sure be a hit .So designers at Mahindras or TVS dont look further keep eyes on a shrunk BMW or an apprilia and tell me the sales numbers once on street

@sukram- Well we definitely need some bikes having killer looks, the similar way Yamaha have done with their R15.
On the other note, i would love to see bikes having 200 to 250cc engines from the bike manufacturers that too at an affordable price!

In my opinion mahindra should launch a 150cc bike with round headlight and dated design at a price of around 45000rs. Then it will be a big hit.Because all the present 150cc bikes are very costly that a 100cc bike buyer cannot even think of buying them. There are many stupid people who are ready to spend 50k for 100cc mopeds like passion ,splendor etc. If M&M can launch something with 12-15 bhp at a price of around 45 -50k then people will think twice before buying those 100cc mopeds.
Suzuki tried their luck by launching Heat for 39k rs but Indians are too stupid .They will buy 100cc splendor for 45k and wont buy 125cc 5 gear having Heat for 39k.
