Bajaj Avenger 220 launched

Bajaj Avenger 220

Bajaj Auto has upped the ante of its lone cruiser offering in the Indian two-wheeler market, the Avenger, by bolting on a de-tuned version of the Pulsar 220′s DTS-i engine. The 220 cc Avenger produces 2.01 PS of power and 1.62 Nm of torque less than its similar engined sporty sibling.

The Avenger 220 succeeds the Avenger 200 and offers extras such as more power, torque and features. The new engine enables the bike to pump out 19.03 PS of max power and 17.5 Nm of max torque. Bajaj has priced the Avenger 220 competitively at Rs. 69,930 (Ex-Showroom Delhi) and the bike is available in a choice of four colour options.

The launch of the Avenger 220 now means that Bajaj has completely done away with its 200 cc oil-cooled DTS-i engine for its Indian range of bikes, while also endowing the Avenger with more oomph for eating up the kilometres on long open roads.

Next in Line – Bajaj Avenger 220

Bajaj Avenger

Bajaj Auto gave India its first cruiser – the Kawasaki-Bajaj Eliminator. After the agreement between Kawasaki and Bajaj in India ended, Bajaj bought in the Avenger, which essentially was a modified Eliminator.

Bajaj increased the Avenger’s displacement from 175cc to 180cc, which then became a 200. With new information from our friends at Indian Cars Bikes, that trend will continue with the emergence of the 220cc Avenger.

Bajaj Auto’s spokeswoman Tejaswini -

The Avenger 220 is indeed coming shortly. The Avenger production has not been stopped per se but the Avenger’s 200cc engine has been upgraded to 220cc. This engine is similar to the one on Bajaj Pulsar 220.

The Bajaj Avenger 220 will use a carburetor. It will also be more expensive than the 200cc Avenger. Bajaj is also said to begin bookings for this high displacement cruiser shortly.

Could the 220cc Avenger be a result of the reverberations created with Harley’s entry into India? Could the Avenger 220 play the role of a poor man’s Harley?
