Yes, Mahindra two-wheelers are going to launch their range of motorcycles on 30th of this month in Mumbai.

Its just a matter of few days now when all the speculations regarding the Mahindra motorcycles will come to an end and everyone will have a clear cut picture of what this company has to offer.

Coming to the most important question that which bikes Mahindra is going to launch? So the answer is Diablo and A02.

Diablo, as most of you must have already read in our previous posts will be a powerful 300cc bike having 4-stroke liquid cooled engine. Targetted at the premium segment this bike will fall under the likes of the people who enjoy speed and sheer power.

On the other hand A02 will be a commuter bike focussed on daily commuting. providing high efficiency and more mileage to the customers. A02 will be nothing but rebadged Kietic Boss modified as per the current demands.

So what happened to the Cevalo? Well, the chances are that Cevalo or something similar wil be brought in at a later date.

The launch event will happen in Mumbai and expect Mahindra two wheelers brand ambassador Amir Khan to be present at the launch.

With bikes in both premium and commuter segement Mahindra wants to please everyone one of us. Personally, I have a lot of expectations from Mahindra motorcycles and it would be interesting to see how things shape up for the company.

After a good response in scooter segment, Mahindra Two-Wheelers is expected to come out with its 125cc Cevalo motorcycle in India, replicating Yamaha’s success and even moving a step-further. Its contemporary styling and simple chassis design approach make it attractive to look at.

This naked beauty, with a muscular tank and sporty aesthetics, certainly looks better than FZ-S, or for that matter, any 150cc bike available in India including Pulsar and Apache. On one hand, the split-seat guarantees comfort and on the other, easy to maneuver. Its huge tires provide more stability to its design with its add-on attractive stylish alloys.

This 125cc engine provides 15 Bhp of peak power with SOHC, 4- Valve, air-cooled and electronic fuel injection. The 17 Inch wheels have wide tires of Rear- 140/60 and Front 110/70, with simple Mono-Shock Absorbing Suspension geometry.

The Exhaust endows it with a "power bike" look to this mechanically advanced aerodynamic masked bike. A gear-indicator and a clock brings some extra bit of information on the go.

Stepping into the league of 125 cc segment, i.e. one of the largest motor-cycle segments of India, will certainly win the hearts of Indian customers right on the first look pushing them to buy one for themselves.

Being a teaser, it doesn’t give any information; but that is what we are here for.

This ad is reportedly of Mahindra Diablo, Mahindra’s new baby that is all set to storm the Indian Motorcycle Market.

It’s not even all show and no go. Powered by a massive 300cc, 4-stroke, liquid cooled engine, this bike has proven its metal at Vallelunga Moto GP race track in Rome, Italy according to the company. It also features other goodies such as Self start facility, Disc brakes, Alloy Wheels, Digital console, etc. Expected prices quoted by websites are Rs 1.75 lakh rupees and that is killer. The performance oriented bike will go head to head with Bajaj Kawasaki Ninja.

Want something for day-to-day use? In comes the Mahindra Cevalo, a 125 cc entry-level motorcycle that is ready to assume your daily activities. We've all been expecting Mahindra's first motorcycle to be a polished and prepared Kinetic Boss with a Chinese engine. In a turnaround of sorts, Mahindra today issued its first ever press release discussing certain details of its upcoming motorcycle range.

Mahindra's motorcycle will benefit from technology developed by Engines engineering, an Italian engineering firm which it acquired in 2008. There's plenty of speculation going around, the one that we'd like to believe is the motorcycle featured on this teaser campaign is a 150-200cc performance bike with at least 18bhp on tap.

The motorcycle has been tested in Italy and is coming to India, as per Mahindra.

So what are you expecting? Will it be a much bigger motorcycle at a very affordable price?

Press Release

Mahindra Motorcycles – coming soon!

September 11, 2010, Mumbai: The eagerly anticipated launch of Mahindra 2 Wheelers’ new range of motorcycles is just around the corner and to add to the excitement, there’s a specially created teaser campaign that’s all set to hit TV screens in the coming week.

Shot extensively on the world renowned Vallelunga Moto GP race track in Rome, Italy, the ad highlights the bikes’ Italian design credentials and the fact that they have undergone rigorous tests in Italy before coming to India.

About the campaign

It’s test day at Vallelunga as a team of engineers and a few spectators look towards the race track with eager anticipation. All attention is focused on the circuit as a bike appears in the distance and zooms past the curious onlookers. The camera then cuts to the pit stop and control rooms where you see various monitors displaying the evaluation parameters used to test the bike.

The engineers are elated – the bike has passed the test with flying colours!

The ad has the message: Tested In Italy, Coming to India – Mahindra Motorcycles towards the end.

The ad ends with a musical tune sign off that has the potential to become a signature tune for all advertising of Mahindra 2 Wheelers. While the ad does not show the details of the bike/s, it certainly leaves the viewer with the impression that the Mahindra bikes would have all the latest technological gadgetry courtesy the Italian lineage. The ad will be visible on all key genres of channels ranging from music, movies, mass, news, regional and sports and also on Youtube.

The ad gently exhorts the potential motorcycle buyer to postpone his decision and check out the bikes at the Mahindra show room.

The ad was directed by Andrea Ranalli who is renowned for his work on European Moto GP circuits. The Creative Director is Robby Mathew of Interface Communications.

Mahindra 2 Wheelers’ motorcycles incorporate design elements from the Bologna based Engines Engineering, a boutique design house which was acquired by the Mahindra Group in 2008. After meeting with huge success in the scooters market in India, M&M is now eying the motorcycle market. Over the past few months there have been indications from the company officials regarding their plan of entering the motorcycle market.

As per Anoop Mathur, Mahindra two-Wheelers’ president, they are already ahead of their sales target by selling one lakh scooters in just 10 months as opposed to their target of selling the same number of units in 18 months. Their immediate plan is to enter the motorcycle market.

As per Anoop Mathur they are planning to launch their first motorcycle by the end of 2010. This motorcycle would be assembled at the same manufacturing unit where the scooters are assembled.

As per the sources the company is working on a motorcycle at its Italy based Engines Engineering which was taken over by M&M in the year 2008.

We expect the first motorcycle from M&M to be from the commuter segment which is based on Kinetic Boss.

After bringing in a commuter bike, M&M would also be launching a high performance bike in the months to come. It was earlier reported the M&M has been talking to UK and Italian based motorcycle manufacturers to launch a high end product.

Mahindra Two Wheelers first product in the motorcycle segment of the Indian two-wheeler market will be a commuter motorcycle, reports NDTV Profit. Mahindra's commuter motorcycle will be based on the platform of the erstwhile Kinetic Boss. The Boss was Kinetic's offering in the commuter segment a few years back.

IMB had earlier speculated that Mahindra could use the Kinetic Boss's platform for its commuter motorcycle, and this has now been confirmed by NDTV Profit.

Mahindra has given its commuter bike the internal codename A02. The bike will use the Kinetic Boss's platform, but will have an engine which will be imported from China. This should give Mahindra a huge advantage in terms of cost savings and should enable them to position their product competitively in the Indian market.

Mahindra is planning to launch its first motorcycle around the festive season, to attract buyers towards its product, and aims to price its product in the 35-40000 price bracket. This will result in the motorcycle locking horns with the Hero Honda CD Dawn and the Bajaj Discover 100.

Also, sources indicate that Mahindra is also working on two more motorcycle platforms, one for an executive segment offering and another for a premium segment motorcycle.

The commuter bike from Mahindra could come and shake up the dynamics of the 100 cc segment of the Indian motorcycle market, but I feel the biggest chink in its armor will be its Chinese engine, since Chinese engines have very poor quality and reliability and the Indian consumer has now become very sensitive to a product's overall quality.

The first bike from the Mahindra's Two Wheeler stable could be a commuter based on the erstwhile Kinetic Boss 100cc bike, sources tell us. The Kinetic Boss was powered by a 97.2cc engine producing 7 bhp of max power and 0.68 kgm of max torque. It was deemed as a low-cost commuter for city traffic.

Mahindra's bike based on the Boss is expected with a new 100cc powerplant. The bike could have a twin-pod instrument binnacle and changes to the looks of the bike to bring it in sync and up to date with today's day and age and Mahindra's design language.

Being a 100cc motorcycle, the bike should be priced around the Rs.35,000-40,000 price bracket and this should provide the bike with a reasonable amount of firepower to succeed in the price sensitive Indian bike market. A Mahindra official has said in the past that their motorcycle will be on the market by March 2011.

In the end, it seems as though Mahindra is content with treading the route of tinkering and tankering with yesteryear's Kinetic products and selling them as Mahindra models (read Duro and the Rodeo) rather than developing new models completely from the ground up.

If Mahindra has to pose serious threats to the established players in the Indian two wheeler space, it needs to come up with new products which I hope it will, when the "high performance" motorcycle comes out next year.

Speaking to Business Standard, a marketing official of Mahindra's two-wheeler division divulged details on the launch date of its new motorcycle for India.

D Shinde, vice president, marketing, Mahindra Two-Wheelers -

We are currently working on launching a motorcycle from the Mahindra stable that can be expected to hit the market some time in March 2011. Our priority is to focus on that for now

The motorcycle market in India is expected to be around eight million vehicles a year and it makes business sense for Mahindra to enter this space. Mahindra is working with its Italian partner Engines Engineering and Taiwan-based company Sanyang Industry Company Ltd. for developing this two-wheeler which could be a commuter.

It was earlier reported that Mahindra is looking at bringing high-end motorcycles into India by partnering with an overseas brand.

Mahindra is expected to produce this motorcycle at its two-wheeler plant at Pithampur near Indore which has an annual capacity of 5,00,000 units.

As already indicated by Mr. Anand Mahindra, Vice Chairman Mahindra Group that a high performance motorcycle is expected to be rolled out soon, it looks that it shoouldn't take long enough for that to happen.

In order to provide the Indian bike enthusiasts powerful sports bike, the company is said to be looking at the options for tying up with an international motorcycle manufacturer keen to enter the Indian market.

To achieve that M&M is in talks with bike manufacturers from UK and Italy. As per the resources the company has already been in talks with bike manufacturers like Triumph and Moto Guzzi.

M&M has already held talks with Triumph and Moto Guzzi

M&M which recently entered the Indian two wheeler market is keen to enter the motorcycle segment and to do this the company is working on an entry level bike with the SYM from Taiwan.

This bike would consist of a 110-125cc engine and would be rolled out first followed by a high end bike. The company is striving hard to keep the costs of these bikes as low as possible.

We hope that Mahindra rolls out some exciting premium bikes which are within the range of the Indian customers! And if they succeed then the big players of the Indian market are going to have a tough time out here.

As already indicated by Mr. Anand Mahindra, Vice Chairman Mahindra Group that a high performance motorcycle is expected to be rolled out soon, it looks that it shoouldn’t take long enough for that to happen.
