TVS selling 8000 Jives a month

TVS Jive

TVS Motor Company is selling 8,000 numbers of its Jive motorcycle in India its representative revealed in a recent interview with Network 18.

The new commuter model, which was unveiled last year, is India’s first motorcycle with a clutchless transmission. TVS has said this motorcycle will be the suitable one for the first-time rider due to its ease of operation. The Jive, on paper, is a perfect motorcycle for our congested metros.

SG Murali, Executive VP-Finance, TVS Motors -

It’s catching up, the new concept is catching up and all the people who purchased the product are extremely happy and very soon the numbers will further increase substantially.

The numbers convey that the Indian two-wheeler rider is indeed open to new concepts as long as it is an integral part of his regular ride. Reinventing the wheel might not necessarily work, but effective changes can come in the form of component and technology upgrades to an everyday product which the customer is willing to invest on.

TVS Motors the country third largest motorcycle manufacturer launched it Wego gearless scooter in Chandigarh last week. With the Wego automatic scooter, TVS has the widest range of scooters in India yet Honda is the segment leader with more than 50% market share.

The TVS Wego comes with a 110cc engine that puts out 8hp and would compete with the Honda Activa, Hero Honda Pleasure and the Suzuki Access 125. The Wego unlike its competitors would be marketed as a unisex offering. TVS has developed this scooter hoping that it would appeal to both the sexes.

TVS also launched the Jive which is the world’s first Clutchless geared bike. TVS’s motive behind the Jive and the Wego is to introduce new products for stress-free commuting. TVS is banking on these to products to drive TVS’s sales this year.

When Indian Motos Blog contacted TVS, we got a confirmation of TVS’s new bike that would be launched in the coming weeks. We expect the new bike to be the legendary Max R 100′s successor which would comply with BS3 emission norms, but this bike wouldn’t be called a Max R 100 and could be a radical product in the commuter bike segment.

The campaign kicked off on April 25, 2010. Media vehicles like gantries, billboards, unipoles, bus branding, etc., were used effectively to communicate the message.

Arun Siddharth, Business Head – Motorcycles, TVS Motors -

For TVS Jive’s outdoor campaign, we needed sharp, differentiated and specific traffic joints in 150 towns across the country. Primesite executed this requirement well, and paid great attention to planning and details.

Mandeep Malhotra, Senior Vice President, Primesite -

We are very happy to have a client like TVS and appreciate them for launching an auto clutch technology that’s never been put to use on a bike in India before. Primesite has attempted to create memorable flashes for TVS Jive in order to build high recall and strong brand association

For me, the campaign, including the ad on the television conveyed that the TVS Jive is a combination of a scooter and motorcycle – it gives you the riding experience and everything else associated with a motorcycle, and the easiness of operating a scooter. What did it mean to you?
