Almost two and a half years since its launch, Yamaha seems to be planning to apply some major cosmetic changes to their YZF- R15. What looks like a Yamaha R15 facelift has been caught testing recently.

From the pictures our new friend Vaibhav Saigal has shared on xbhp.com we can easily make out that majority of the work has been done on the rear section which till now has been accused of being very thin and disproportionate especially when compared to the front half of the bike.

To begin with split seats have been installed, its placed a bit higher than the existing model which I think will make it a bit difficult for the shorter pillion to to sit. This one has a newly designed tail lamp followed by a new rear fender.

The grab rails have also been changed and looks similar to the ones present on the Honda CB Twister.

The exhaust also looks totally different from the existing model. Another visible change are the alloy wheels which sport a new design. The front half remains pretty much the same.

Looking at the images I don't think that the size of the rear tire has changed. This might disappoint a lot of people who complain the tires to be very thin. Fuel economy is important, even if the Indian buyer is paying a lakh of rupees for a 2-wheeler.

Now coming to the technical specs of the bike I feel that if this variant comes into the market it can have higher engine displacement and power figures. Till now the R15 has only received paint jobs and graphics to it and this is the first time I am seeing so many changes been brought into it.

I have been closely following the people at the Yamaha dealerships and recently I came to know from one of the official there that a higher displacement bike could be in the pipeline. Since these images show that Yamaha is testing a new version of R15 I am sure Yamaha has something exciting in store next year. Excitement need not mean higher displacement, but if it is, we're not complaining.

So this is what I would expect to see in the new version of R15-

1) New bodywork
2) More power and torque
3) Wider tires
4) Better low to mid range rpm response
5) Projector headlamps
6) LED tail lamps

It would be too early to say how the final product will look like but somehow I am not satisfied with the looks of this new version. The rear seat seems to be placed too high, the tail light is very small. Overall the design doesn't looks a flawless one from these spyshots.

Good news for the Colombians as YZF-R15 becomes more affordable. The company has managed reduce the cost to around INR 2,05,613.

The bike is essentially the same as the one sold here in India with features like electronic injection, single cylinder SOHC 4-valve, liquid cooled and disk brakes on both wheels. Yamaha also sells the Rossi edition of the R15 in Colombia, in limited numbers (pictured).

Can cost cutting measure on the R15, without impacting performance, be offered here in India at a more competitive price?

Something fishy?

A Yamaha YZF-R15 caught fire in Hyderabad city while it was negotiating a flyover. The cause of this fire could not be ascertained and we haven't heard anything official from Yamaha.

From the images, it looks like only one side of the motorcycle, around the engine area was damaged by the fire. There is no damage to the other parts of the motorcycle. The newspaper carrying this story has not reported any casualties due to this accident.

While the cause of the fire has not been determined, could this be due to a faulty fuel system? A leakage caused either from the fuel tank or from one of the connections could have picked up heat from the surrounding area and lead to combustion?

These days everyone is talking about the red and white paint scheme of the 2010 edition of Yamaha YZF-R15 which was displayed at the auto expo recently but I'm not sure how many of you have noticed the new blue color of R15.

Before the 2010 edition of R15 came into picture, Yamaha had already introduced the new blue color of the R15. Along with a slight change in the color tone this new blue bike also comes with an all new set of graphics.

Yamaha introduced the Racing Colors of R15 with new graphics pattern a few months back but the blue R15 was kept unchanged with the same old graphics until recently.

I noticed this blue R15 around the new year's time at a Yamaha Dealership near my home. At that point of time I thought that it was me who didn't knew about this color but later on I found that lots of other people never saw the bike in its new blue theme.

As you can notice in the images that the graphics on the side panel have been redesigned to give a fresh new look to the bike along with additional stickering above the head lamps on both sides.

Overall this new blue color of R15 along with the new graphics pattern looked much better than the previous one to me.

Now coming to the 2010 edition of R15, it is still not available at the showrooms yet and as per the Yamaha dealership there is no ETA for it as of now.

Hope to see the red n white R15 on roads soon!

The Yamaha YZF-R15 which brought back Yamaha into the Indian motorcycle race, is now finding new markets to replicate a similar effect. Our friend Taufik has posted a spy shot of a black Yamaha YZF-R15 mounted on to a ramp in Yamaha's Indonesian assembly line. The specification is expected to remain the same except for a small bump in power or torque.

Will it create a new segment? Will it be able to sustain? How will Yamaha price it?
