The legend of RX 100 – Preparing for a comeback

Yamaha RX-100The legend will return, this time with a 4-stroke engine

The legendary RX 100 might make a come back soon. The company is deciding to re-launch the model and is currently working on the initial specs of the bike.

Yamaha RX 100 doesn’t need an introduction to the Indian motorcyclists. Yamaha’s most successful and loved bike was  launched in 1985 in collaboration with Escorts Ltd but due to strict emission norms coming into place the bike had to be phased out in 1996 due to its failure of meeting these norms.

Pankaj Dubey, national business head, India Yamaha Motor-

We are working on the lines of the RX 100 and are looking to have something of a similar product for India. It will be early to talk about it but we will come out with a product there. We cannot launch the RX  100 with a two-stroke engine but we are working on a four-stroke version for the bike

This would mean that RX 100 will be a 4-stroke motorcycle complying with BS-IV emission norms which come into effect in a few months time. If this bike is launched at a price of a entry level bike then its surely going to improve the sales for the company.

The demand of this legendary motorcycle is still present in the resale market, however their proud owners doesn’t want to sell their RX 100 because of their attachment to this bike. Even I own a 1989 RX 100 which I never want to sell!

If the company is able to provide a product which if not exactly but somewhat similar to the RX 100 then they will succeed in capturing the heart of the buyers. But can a 4-stroke do what a 2-stroke can?

Whoa!!! well it a muffled sound of excitement or perhaps the mild intoxication of joy to hear the line up. But the sad thing is that its four stroke as predicted. I still love my pimped RX-135 5s which is now a 175…. but yet i would love to marry this piece for the legendary inheritance – the name being RX 100!!

  2. nazboy says:

@Anoop- Yes, the name in itself says it all. If the 4 stroke version is able to retain the characteristics of the original RX 100 then it will be a bit success!

  3. Anoop says:

honetly i am with u.. as long as they (dont think) and jus fit out all the parts to make a near identical twin then it is to considered as sold!

  4. Sundar says:

I still own a RX100 89′ (Red) model in very good condition.I am the first hand owner till now and I am proud of it.

  5. nazboy says:

@Sundar- Same is the case with me. Even i have a red RX 100 1989 model still in a good condition. Everytime i go out on it people ask me if i want to sell it? :)

  6. Sanjiv says:

    Hi Naz, Anoop,

Good to hear the news & my heart is thumping with Joy! sadly its gona be a 4stroke, so we would miss the power revvup!!

I just hope they retain the sweet sound of the drums with the new machine.

Guys, m a proud owner of a ’95 RX 100, m new to the city (delhi) could you refer me to a master mechanic who could do justice to my Rex, it needs a complete servicing & a bold new look, thinking of repainting it.

    Please advise.

    thank you

  7. Sanjiv says:

  10. christopher Daniel says:

I am Daniel My question is when and which month they are going to resurect this bike.I want to buy this bike for two reasons .
one is for its style and design of the body and engine which if u could with ur third eye it is triangular engine and about the fuel tanks there is no words and others say like back portion especially the red lights and the two indicators .Nothing can be compared with this legend .
    Daniel

  11. christopher Daniel says:

Please give me an answer about the month and year of relaunching this legendary bike. Please give me the reply at the earliest.
    Daniel

  12. christopher Daniel says:

    Daniel
One more query i want to raise if the sound matches that of rx 100 then sure i am saying the sale will beat the other bikes. This is will not be dream but the people will try to sell their bike and jump to buy this legend.

  13. nirajloya says:

dear sir , when so many models are launched by ur company than why not rx135 ? i am sure it will work even with 4 stroke engine but should be designed same like older one. even after so many bikes launched by so many companies no one can match with sitting style , petrol tank shape etc. i will be first one to buy the bike if you …………………………yarro structure same rakho andar changes karo norms ke hisab se. itne faltu models launch karte ho sare ke sare flop. baat mano rx 100 ya rx 125- 135 kuch bhi lao splendor ka market tod degi. 100%

  14. NISHANT GUPTA says:

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! IF RX 100 came back den i’ll be very happy i’m already having one RX 100 and last month it has completed 22years.if it’s really relaunched den i’m ready to by one more RX 100.

  15. sivan says:

    Thank you..

Why can’t you use the engine of Yamaha Crux ( 4 – strok) to the re-launch.
    I like its height & looks….

  16. Gurjit Singh says:

i dont think so that a 4-stroke can give as much power and torque like a 2-stroke 100cc engine……..
bt lets hope for he best……….

  17. Manu says:

Hey, technology has changed! a pimped up 4 stroke engine can deliver lots of power and fun. Yamaha should keep the mileage low close to 45 per litre and give more juice….

  18. Adarsh says:

  30. kamal says:

pls launch the legend of bikes

  31. k s pradeep says:

my friend Gowda’s rx 100 ( KA 02 Q 3010) was lifted by the thieves not once but twice and on bothocassion he was lucky enough to recover it back from the sleuths. But on the third time luck dint paved and he left the hope, why I am mentioning this because such was the seldom of the bike in drawing the attentions of the passersby. If the Yamaha people re-launch the legend then sure its a real tribute by a manufacturer for a machine’s popularity and glory which is unparalleled by any sort of bike even today at this moment. They should bring it without much differentiation with the same simple graphics on the tank and the big black silencer to haunt. The shape and dimension is evergreen, and in the same lines the RD350 should be re-launced with the 4stroke at the earliest to enthrall the ever eager bike mongers of the nation

  32. Noor Mohammed says:

i am big fan of yamaha rx100. i recently buyed yamaha sz-r 153cc if the legend of yamaha is relaunched i will sell my byke and i want to by the rx 100

  33. PILI says:

Soy fan de yamaha rx100 y todo mundo me pregunta que si la moto tiene el motor arreglado por la velocidad de ella y es una ,moto que muchos quisieran tener pero la conservare hasta que Cristo venga…

  34. Xan...krigor says:

OMG……………….glad to here that the legend is coming back….but with 4S Engine?

no man….it will never match the performance of 2stroke RX100!!!!

i am afraid that RX1004S will not bring that feeling……..

hope for the best……alles gut!!!!! RX1004S!!!
