TVS Motor Company has no plans of launching the Scooty Hybrid, which it showcased at the 2010 Auto Expo, this year. When IMB contacted a senior TVS Motor Company Official, he told us that they have the capability of developing vehicles using the hybrid technology and that they demonstrated it at the Auto Expo. But they are still studying the technology and its pros and cons and conducting tests to ascertain its feasibility.
The official also told us that they will definitely launch a vehicle using the hybrid technology, but only when they feel that the time is right and the market is ready for such a product, since currently the price of the hybrid technology and in turn a hybrid vehicle’s price is high. The company is working to make technology more affordable and thereby more acceptable to the wallets of consumers.
This move from TVS to delay the launch of the Scooty Hybrid, in order to make the technology and the product more affordable seems sensible since they would not have found many takers for such a product if they had priced it too high and that would have been catastrophic for such a promising product.
